I might be a bit biased, but I love Nantucket. It's hard to express what this island means to me and other residents, but here are my top five reasons to love Nantucket.
1. THE HISTORY
Nantucket was founded in the 1600s and there are still remnants of its past all over the island. There are over a half dozen museums on the island and each one tells a part of our story. Visit The Whaling Museum to learn about the long history of whaling on Nantucket. Or visit the Lightship Basket Museum to find out what makes the baskets of Nantucket so special.
2. THE COMMUNITY
With over 14,000 year-round residents, Nantucket is full of people passionate about the island. With festivals from April to December, there are lots of chances to celebrate the special community on the island. The best way to keep up with the community is to read the town's e-news.
3. THE BEAUTY
Nantucket has stunning island beauty everywhere you look. From beaches to the miles of bike paths there is no shortage of ways to get out and appreciate everything the island has to offer. One of my favorite things to do is visit one of the three Lighthouses on Nantucket.
4. THE FOOD
With fresh seafood from local fishermen and locally grown produce from local farms, Nantucket is a haven for food lovers. With dozens of restaurants to choose from you can find just about any type of food you're craving. Be sure to visit Cisco Brewers to taste locally brewed beer, wine, and spirits too.
5. THE ACTIVITIES
There is no shortage of things to do on Nantucket! Check out the hiking and biking trails, fishing and boating tours, yearly festivals, or theatre and musical events. You'll find something going on just about every weekend.
