Holiday Events to Look Forward on Nantucket in 2023

As the year draws to a close, the island of Nantucket transforms into a winter wonderland with a series of holiday events that draw in residents and visitors alike. From the famously frigid Turkey Plunge to the beloved annual Christmas Stroll, the island is abuzz with festive cheer sure to make your holiday season unforgettable.


The Festival of Wreaths


To kick off the official holiday season, walk through the McCausland Gallery at the Whaling Museum from November 20th–25th and take a look at an array of hand-crafted wreaths made by islanders, businesses, schools, non-profits, and organizations. Be sure to bid on your favorites in the online auction — proceeds benefit the NHA’s outreach efforts!


The Turkey Plunge 2023

The Nantucket Atheneum Cold Turkey Plunge is an annual event that provides significant funding for the Weezie Library for Children. The initiative ensures year-round access to programs, services, and materials for library users of all ages. Take the plunge this year at the 22nd Cold Turkey Plunge on November 23rd. The Festival of Trees


Running from December 1st to the 30th, the Festival of Trees features creatively decorated trees contributed by community members, local merchants, nonprofit organizations, artists, and schoolchildren.


Annual Tree Lighting and Community Caroling

Kickstart your holiday season the day after Thanksgiving, November 24th, with the Annual Tree Lighting followed by community caroling. Watch over 150 trees illuminate the island with festive holiday charm, then enjoy community caroling by Nantucket High School’s talented choir.


The 49th Annual Christmas Stroll

A cherished tradition dating back to 1973, the Nantucket Christmas Stroll is back for its 49th year! Drawing visitors from all over the country, this iconic event offers an array of family-friendly activities, from delectable food to live entertainment and even a visit from Santa Claus! Organized by the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce, the Stroll hosts local businesses offering activities such as cookie decorating, performances, book signings, and much more.
